Settling in for the marathon

As of this weekend, I have been Queen’s Bard of the East for a full three months–a quarter of the year that champions are supposed to serve. I continue to be honored and deeply humbled at this opportunity, and recognize the good fortune and privilege that allowed me to compete and to serve. With that said, I need to level with you about something:

This position does not look like it did on the brochure.

#SCAatHome: Blackbird (Beatles cover)

I’ve been quiet, right? Too quiet. Sharing my first guitar piece, been working on for a little over a month. I’m starting to work on some of my stuff too. #SCAatHome

Recording: Songwriting to Tell a Story

I had a great time teaching “Songwriting to Tell a Story” on Sunday. Thanks to everyone who came out for it. For those of you who missed it, the recording is up on my YouTube channel:

#SCAatHome: Plant Your Feet w/ Dave Lambert

At last weekend’s East Kingdom Ethereal Court on YouTube, a lovely video was shown of the court attendants preparing from home, in garb. As it happened, the music that accompanied that video was a work in progress recording of my song “Plant Your Feet”, with my friend Dave Lambert on guitar, and Bird the Bard on horn and whistle. It was a last minute replacement song (funny story), and worked quite nicely.

The Lusty Month of May (#SCAatHome)

I have at times been accused of being “too Broadway” for the SCA. Since yesterday was May Day, the official start of Anno Societatis 55 (the 55th year of the SCA calendar), and today is gorgeous out…

I wanted to make sure everyone understands what it really looks like when I sing Broadway (in this case, Lerner & Lowe’s Camelot). I’m no Julie Andrews, but every first of May I’m tempted to sing this, so it’s just time.

Kingdom Dance-off: Eye of the Tiger (East)

For those who don’t know, the kingdoms of the SCA have been creating videos of each populace dancing to popular songs as a way to stay connected and keep our spirits up during this time of being stuck at home.

The East Kingdom just brought it. This is my kingdom. East is the Beast.
